Community Areas Programme

The Ministry of the Environment in co-operation with a wide range of government departments is undertaking a Community Areas Programme as part of Government’s Social Agenda.  The broad intent of the programme is:

“To prepare, design and implement environmental improvement plans for Bermuda ’s well-established, high density residential neighborhoods in co-operation with local residents and community leaders.”

This is your opportunity to make a strong case in favor of your neighborhood being included in the Community Areas Programme.  The inter-department committee will review all the applications and make a recommendation based on an assessment of the local issues to be addressed; the extent to which an investment in environmental improvements will bring results; and the level of commitment of local residents.  A high level of co-operation between residents and technical officers will be essential to the success of this programme.

The solutions, the courses of action and the plan will reflect the needs, ideas and wishes of the local residents.

Most of the funding for this programme will be provided by the Ministry of the Environment’s “environmental improvements” capital account.  Other sources of public funding will be identified if necessary.
